What’s holding small businesses back in the digital age?
With so many small businesses not fully embracing the digital age, one might expect to find a broad range of barriers that are tough to overcome such as a lack of technical skills, or huge financial barriers to investing in technology. However, the issues are actually much simpler: Many small businesses need to be made aware of the benefits of the internet and other digital tools.

Amongst the least digitally engaged small business, 40 percent believe that digital tools are “not relevant for my business,” and 38 percent that “they are not effective for my business.” That is an astounding finding, and indicates that less digitally engaged businesses may be unaware of the benefits associated with an internet presence.

Responsive Web Design

Responsive web design (RWD) is an approach to web design that makes web pages render well on a variety of devices and window or screen sizes. A site designed with RWD adapts the layout to the viewing environment by using fluid, proportion-based grids, flexible images, and CSS3 media queries. Responsive layouts automatically adjust and adapt to any device screen size, whether it is a desktop, a laptop, a tablet, or a mobile phone.

A single-page application (SPA) is a web application or web site that interacts with the user by loading the entire pages from a server. This approach avoids interruption of the user experience between successive pages making the application behave more like a desktop application. In a SPA, all necessary code is retrieved with a single page load and the page does not reload at any point in the process, nor does control transfer to another page.

Security

Websites can use Transport Layer Security (TLS) to secure all communications between their servers and web browsers. The identity of the communicating parties can be authenticated using public-key cryptography. This authentication can be made optional, but is generally required for at least one of the parties (typically the server). The connection is reliable because each message transmitted includes a message integrity check using a message authentication code to prevent undetected loss or alteration of the data during transmission.

Dynamic Content from DataBase

One of the most common types of dynamic web pages is the database driven type. This means that you have a web page that grabs information from a database and inserts that information into the web page each time it is loaded. If the information stored in the database changes, the web page connected to the database will also change accordingly without human intervention. This is commonly seen on online banking sites where you can log in and check out your bank account balance. Your bank account information is stored in a database and has been connected to the web page with programming thus enabling you to see your banking information.
